Gurnard near Cowes

Another Isle of Wight holiday location, which is oft seen as a hidden gem, is Gurnard which is a short distance from Cowes on the North of the Isle of Wight.
Gurnard Bay and beach which offers a traditional promenade with privately owned wooden beach huts and a large grassy area to sit or play. There is also a fenced children's play ground with climbing poles, ropes and a beach offering a mixture of sand and shingle with rocks at low tide.
Gurnard Sailing Club is very popular with dinghy sailors and both Cowes and Gurnard are famous for their yachting events such as Gurnard Dinghy Week at the end of July and Cowes Week at the beginning of August each year.
The walk into Cowes along the promenade takes about 30 minutes (5 minute drive) and from here you can view the cruise liners that leave Southampton normally between 5 and 6 in the evening on some days.
For a great self catering holiday cottage break in Gurnard there is dining a plenty both locally and in nearby Cowes. Gurnard Bay has the Waters Edge Cafe right on the beach-front and is very popular for breakfasts, lunches, coffee and cakes and is licensed. There's also The Woodvale pub which has indoor and outdoor eating areas and looks over Gurnard Bay.
Gurnard Village has a very good local grocery store selling everything from, fresh daily bread and milk, wines, groceries, chilled and frozen foods. There's also a newsagents, hairdresser, All Saints church, and The Portland Pub.
