The Taverners, Godshill
Penned on the 5th April 2012
The Taverners is a real country pub that is popular with locals and tourists alike.
With its flagstone floors, oak beams and open fires, The Taverners was understandably recently voted number 5 in the top ten pubs in the UK by Trip Advisor.
All locally sourced, the produce is bought daily depending on what is available and in season. Everything on the menu is freshly made. I am a big fan of their beer battered fish and chips with homemade chips and tartare sauce, followed by sticky toffee and date pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
The bar offers a selection of 10 different wines by the glass, draught lagers and ales including The Taverners very own brew. Roger Serjent, the chef/landlord even has his own vegetable patches and chickens in the garden. There is a new farm shop offering local produce.
