Calbourne Water Mill
Penned on the 18th July 2012
Calbourne Water Mill is one of the oldest working water mills in the country dating back to the Domesday Book over 1000 years.
Located to the west of Newport in 35 acres of beautiful countryside of oak woodlands, ponds and mill stream the mill makes a fascinating and fun filled day out for all the family.
View the milling process at 3pm daily and visit the pottery to see the potters at work and get your hands dirty in the family Clayplay area.
You can take a punt down the river, play golf on an 18 hole putting green or croquet on the lawn. See all the animals roaming the grounds, from badgers to red squirrels and feed the peacocks, doves, ducks and fish.
The fully licensed cafe restaurant is a 17th converted cattle barn and serves up delicious freshly made snacks and meals. Sunday roasts are so popular you are advised to book.
Calbourne Water Mill has plenty going on in a wonderful setting to make a fabulous day out for all the family.
And why not finish the afternoon with a lovely meal at the Blacksmiths Arms just down the road, serving great home cooked food and reputedly the best Sunday roasts on the Island
